Upcoming Seminar of Possible Interest (info supplied by our good friend, Joyce Frommer, at Clifton's Barnes & Noble) ~
The week of October 10-October 18 is Educator Appreciation Week at all B&N stores
". . . Educators shopping at the Clifton Commons location are entitled to receive 2 professional development credits if they attend a special workshop that will be held on October 15 from 7-9 pm. Advance registration is required due to space limitations. As always, the event will feature a raffle for the chance to win a $500 Barnes & Noble gift card for attendee’s school, fabulous prizes and giveaways.
The presenter will be Marcella Moran, MA, LHMC, an educational consultant specializing in organization. Ms. Moran is co-author (with Martin Kutscher, MD) of Organizing the Disorganized Child: Simple Strategies to Succeed in School, an important guide for parents and educators.
Organizing the Disorganized Child finally answers the question: How can I help a child get organized without waging a battle? This essential tool kit for parents and educators factors organizational styles into the equation and offers effective strategies that deliver amazing long-term results.
Renowned ADHD expert Dr. Martin Kutscher and coach Marcella Moran explain the roots of children's organizational problems, and parents' roles in fixing them. They outline different organizational styles used by different students. (Not all kids organize the same way!) The authors outline exactly which school materials to buy, and how to set up the study area. They also provide a step-by-step plan for an organizational system, including:
•Refining morning and nighttime routines
•Getting the correct work home
•Planning the work, and getting it back to where it belongs
•Tips for reading and note taking
•Study and test-taking skills
•Learning how to ask the right questions
Marcella Moran, MA, LHMC, is a licensed psychotherapist and educational consultant, who works with families to develop positive strategies for students who are disorganized. Her unique skill of assessing a student’s learning style with an organizational style has proven to be a successful strategy for developing personalized organizational systems for students of all ages.
While serving as Coordinator for the Counseling and Psychological Services at Fordham University’s Tarrytown campus in New York, Marcella has helped students gain self-awareness and improve academic performance through individual and group counseling. She has made presentations at numerous workshops and seminars on various topics, including organizing the college-bound student, time management for students, and study skills.
Before starting her consulting business, Marcella worked as a New York State licensed middle school and high school guidance counselor. In addition to her private practice, she is also an adjunct professor at Mercy College.
In addition to her presentation, there will be a Q&A period. Copies of “Organizing the Disorganized Child” will be available for purchase ($12.99 less 25% that week for educators) and Moran will stay to sign copies.
