As you know, April was Autism Awareness Month, however, shouldn't we be aware year round? Our library has been very fortunate to have benefitted from student volunteers from The Children's Institute ("TCI" - located in Verona) helping us weekly since the spring of 2001. And, for as many years, Loretta Boronat has worked very hard to create marvelous displays of TCI art work, and information about autism. This year we are especially grateful that we have been able to offer even more thanks to an innovative project created by INFOLINK. TCI and this library have collaborated on their project "Welcoming Library Spaces for the Autism Community and Their Families." for the Library That collaboration has resulted in teen book groups, speakers, adult book discussions, film events, offerings for educators, parents and the community - as well as many other tangible and intangible benefits for both institutions. Please be certain to pick up one of the postcards available at the circulation desks to learn more about the Friday, May 16th program specifically for educators, and, the Friday, June 13, 2008 program featuring Justice Helen Hoens. (More information can be found on our "upcoming events" page.)

Need some help placing a reserve on library materials from home?

It's easy here's how:

Through PALSPlus:

1. Go to our website www.caldwellpl.org
2. Click on Library Catalog (left side of screen) You should now be on iBistro at PALSPlus
3. Type in the item you want then click on Search
4. Find your item in the Search Results and click on the box that says Details
5. Click on Place Hold (left side of screen, below the word ‘KEEP’)
6. Put in your PIN # (call us if you have forgotten it) and your User ID (the 14 numbers on your
Caldwell Public Library card). You have a choice as to where you would like to pick up your book order. The Caldwell Public Library is the library that will be shown in the pick up at box. This means that your order should arrive at the Caldwell Public Library within a few days and we will call you when it is in. (If you prefer to pick it up at a different library, click on the little arrow to the right of the pick up at box and pick a library from the list that will come up).
7. Click on Place Hold

If you are unable to access an item through PALSPlus you can place a request through JerseyCat:

2. Click on Resources/Reference (top right of screen)
3. Click on
Jersey Cat (middle right of screen)
4. Click on Begin
5. Choose the libraries you would like to search from by clicking in the boxes next to the library’s name, a little check will appear in that
box

. At the top of the page there is a yellow shaded area saying “Search For” bring the cursor to that box, type in your request at click on Search
7. At this point a list of books will come up. Find your request and click on that underlined title
8. Review the information. There will be a list of libraries that have that item, make sure that some of them say ILL Lender then click on Request This Item (top right of screen)
9. In the middle of the screen fill in the Patron Information, Name, Password (make up an easy one for you to remember!) and Telephone Number, then click on Submit (top right of screen).

Your orders should arrive at the Caldwell Public Library and you will be notified upon their arrival.

And, don't forget...WI-FI and PALSPlus are already here, and a DVD collection finally became a reality thanks to a "jump start" in the form of a VERY generous birthday gift given to Dr. Pascal Collura by his five children, their spouses and his grandchildren, and his wife, Grace. Pat served on the Caldwell Public Library Board for ten years - and through this incredible gift he, and his family, continue to enhance and improve our library. We are very grateful!

Please note: two DVDs per adult patron, checked out for a one-week period, $1 per day fine for every day late.
