Storytimes and Music Times

Wee Time

  • Mondays at 9:30 a.m. (Oct. 14-Nov.4 & Nov. 18 -Dec. 16)
  • For babies to about age 2 1/2 with caregiver.
  • Little ones enjoy a fun program that includes stories, rhymes, and songs.  Storytimes provide stepping stones that will later lead to reading and writing.

Little Readers

  • Mondays at 11:30 a.m. (Oct. 14-Nov.4 & Nov. 18 -Dec. 16)
  • For children age 2 1/2 - 5
  • An interactive program of stories, songs, and hands on activities for Children Ages 2 1/2 -5.  Program features a letter of the week.

Wee Music

  • Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. through December 12 (no program on Nov. 28)
  • For babies up to about age 2 1/2 (pre and early walkers)
  • This hands-on sensory themed program invites little ones to use various props like shaker eggs, scarves, and bells. Program lasts about 20 minutes.

Music and Movement

  • Thursdays at 11:30 a.m. through December 12  (no program on Nov. 28)
  • For Children age 2 1/2 - 5
  • Children move, stretch, dance, plus use various props like musical instruments, rhythm sticks, and a parachute.

Reading Practice

Dog Tales

  • Wednesday Oct. 23 and Nov. 20, 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
  • Best for Children Age 5-8
  • Children practice reading to a certified therapy dog. Registration for each individual event is required. Please call the library at 973-226-2837 to set up your time slot. Friends and siblings who wish to read together may do so.

Reading Buddies

  • Make Your Own Schedule with your child's reading buddy!
  • For children learning to read or who could  use some extra practice
  • After registering, children are paired with a teen reading buddy volunteer.  Parents/Caregivers create a schedule with their child's reading buddy. Meetings take place in the library. Please note program availability depends on the number of volunteers.

Reading Rabbits Book Club

  • Dec. 5 at 4:00 pm.
  • 2nd and 3rd Graders
  • We read the first few chapters of a book (chosen by club members) together at meetings, along with doing fun reading games and challenges. If a member likes the book, they can borrow it to finish it at home.

Read with Me Book Club

  • Tuesday Nov. 19, and Thursday Dec. 19 at 4:30 p.m.
  • Kindergartners and 1st Graders
  • We read a short early reader or picture book together during the club so there is no need to read the book in advance. Registration is appreciated so that Miss Kris can be sure to have enough copies of the book for the club meeting. We'll also have a small snack. Children are encouraged to read during the program but it is not required!

After Dark Art Club

  • Second Wednesday of the Month at 6:00 p.m. starting in January  (Jan. 8, Feb. 2, Mar. 11, Apr. 8)
  • Best for Ages 7+
  • Calling all young artists! Stop by the library for a themed art project once a month in the Children's Room.

Special Programs

Family Gingerbread Decorating Program

  • Thursday Nov. 21 at 4:00 p.m.
  • All Ages
  •  It's that time of year again! Sign up here to participate in our annual Gingerbread House Decorating Program taking place on Thursday November 21st at 4pm. All houses will be decorated at the event and then displayed in the library for voting. Like last year, we will be asking you to come up with a name for your house and write a brief story about it. This is a family event so all ages are welcome and families are encouraged to make their house together. Advance registration to decorate a house is required. No drop-ins for this program due to limited supplies.  Winner(s) will be announced at the Winter Music Move and Groove event on 12/17.

Stuffed Animal Sleepover Storytime

  • Wednesday December 11  at 6:00 p.m.
  • All Ages Welcome
  • Children and their stuffed animal friends are invited to visit the library for a before bed storytime program.  Every stuffed animal who attends the program is also invited to stay at the library overnight, with their child's permission.  Children can pick their stuffed animal (or doll) up the next morning!  We'll be sure to take pictures of the fun the stuffed animals and dolls have too!

Holiday Story and Snack Program:  How the Grinch Stole Christmas

  • Thursday December 12  at 4:00 p.m.
  • Best for ages 5-10
  • Children are invited to enjoy a reading of Dr. Seuss's classic tale how the Grinch Stole Christmas and then do a fun Grinch food craft presented by Evelyn from ShopRite of West Caldwell.

Winter Music Move and Groove with Miss Jolie

  • Wednesday December 17  at 4:00 p.m.
  • All Ages Welcome
  • Stop by the library for an afternoon of winter themed fun with Miss Jolie!  This is a 45 minute interactive music class/concert welcoming the winter season. This program is for kids of all ages.  We'll also announce the winner of our family gingerbread house decorating program at the event. This is the last big children's program before Miss Kris starts her maternity leave at the end of the week so we hope you can make it!

My Adult and Me Kids Play Yoga

  • Weekly, January  10th - January 31st
  • For parents and caregivers with children age 1-5
  • Join us for a 4-week My Adult and Me Kids Play Yoga series presented by Indigo Yoga for children age 1-5 with their caregiver. Please bring a mat and wear comfortable clothes. Meets on Fridays at 10:30am between January 10 - January 31. Registration Required. Limit to 10 caregiver/child pairs. Registering signs you up for all 4 classes. (Please let us know if you can no longer attend so that we can open registration up to someone else.) If registration is full, contact the library at 973-226-2837 to be added to a waiting list.
